She Didn’t See It Coming!

We had an empowering Tele-Gathering tonight with the very successful and insightful Nancy Widmann.  Nancy was the first woman President at CBS, Inc.  She managed the CBS Radio Division for eight years.  At the time, CBS Radio was the largest radio broadcasting operation in the country with over $400 Million in revenues and 1200 employees.  Her responsibilities included the management of 21 AM and FM stations, six radio networks, and a national sales representation firm.  She was also inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2005.  So you can say that Nancy was clearly at the top of her game and her industry. Then what seemed like the impossible happened.   Following an acquisition, Nancy was asked to step down from her position as President.  Needless to say that she was totally blindsided.  It is that experience that prompted Nancy to co-author the book, I Didn’t See it Coming - a practical guidebook for executives, published by Wiley in April of 2007.   I encourage you all to get your copy of the book at www.Nancywidmann.com.  Today, Nancy has a thriving consulting and coaching business and is a sought after speaker.  She also serves on the Guardian Leader Experts Council, an organization that prepares managers and organizations to deal with the challenges of the 21st Century.  Now talking about turning a setback into a successful comeback. 

During our 1-hour call, Nancy shared with us her pearls of wisdom and lessons-learned including why having a strategic plan makes us more confident, courageous and creative in her personal and professional life.   Some of the key takeaways from the call are the important pieces that go into building a strategic plan (and at least two might surprise you) and what is the “unwritten contract” of business?  (simply put the unwritten contract of any relationship).
