Dare to Soar

“Don’t depend on forces outside of yourself to get ahead.”  Oprah Winfrey

Most of us are seeking new thrills and experiences.   During the interviews with Daring Women, many of you shared with us some of your dreams.  They range from: starting a new business, learning to play a musical instrument, embarking on a second career, taking an adventurous trip to Machu Picchu or the Galapagos Island, jumping out of an airplane, getting involved in a cause or picking up a new hobby.  There is no doubt that new experiences make us feel alive, more confident and increase our self-esteem.  As a result our lives become more fulfilling.

As Anthony Robbins, the famous motivational speaker, says from the stage, “There are two kinds of pains:  the pain of failure and the pain of regret.”

I do not know about you, but I would choose the pain of failure over the pain of regret anytime.

Science Research Institute completed a study - surveying over 10,000 people.  Those in the last chapter of life, including terminally ill - whom were asked a single question:  “Knowing that life is about to end,” researchers wanted to know, “what would you do over again?”  Three common responses from the 10,000 individuals studied were:

  • Take more leaps of faith
  • Listen to my heart more, take more risks in matters of love
  • Make a greater difference; do something that created more of a legacy.

Bottom line:  the only regrets we really have are the risks we didn’t take!

As Steve Bow once said:  ”God’s gift to you is more talent and ability than you will ever use in this lifetime.  Your gift to God is to develop as much of that talent and ability as you can in this lifetime.”  So our goal is to fly high, spread our wings (soar like an eagle), break the mold from being realistic and living a reality based life.  It is such a narrow way to live.  We have the ability to be, do or have anything we want so let’s go for it.

Everyone is born rich in potential.  As you think, you will become.  Never loose sight of that and constantly expect something wonderful to happen.  See yourself achieving and soaring to new heights.  Aim for something that will stretch you whilst remaining achievable.

If the goal is achieved too easily it is not high enough
to make any significant change in your life and
needs to be adjusted.

On the other hand, if you consistently miss the goal, re-evaluate and consider setting it a little lower as you will probably get discouraged and give up.  The aim is to keep growing, and moving into a more satisfactory position for your circumstances.

How Do I Dare to Soar?

  • Learn to leave your comfort zone.  When we leave our comfort zone we become a more rounded and confident woman.
  • We must set our minds on always conquering the unknown.  Always “think outside the box.”  Look fear in the eyes and  just do the task.  Chances are that you will succeed.  Every successful woman has undoubtedly faced fear many times, yet they have succeeded in their business or career.   So can you!
  • Look into areas of your life where you need or want to change.  Now, make a decision that you will improve in that area 1% a day, week or month. Small activities can lead to large results in time.  Make a commitment to dare yourself to do one small thing every day that leads toward your desired outcome.  Look back in a week or a month and see the results.  If you are consistent, you will be amazed.
  • Learn how to make decisions quickly.  Some decisions just aren’t worth too much of your valuable time.  The ability to make decisions is the key to becoming successful anyway.  So why wouldn’t you want to speed that process up a little? The ability to make decisions quickly, especially minor ones, will free up a lot of time that can be spent on more important things.  Aside from that, it increases self-confidence, which will help you in making decisions on more important issues.
  • Remember, you too can become successful in any aspect of your life that you choose.   You just have to get past one thing.  YOURSELF!
